9:05 p.m. update: The remainder of the flash flood watch has been canceled for the rest of the area. The heaviest of rain with the low pressure previously known as Andrea is focusing east of the bay. Showers may persist, mainly to the east of I-95, for the next few hours with any additional rainfall mostly light.
8:20 p.m. update: Flash flood watch has been discontinued from the District and points west, where threat of heavy rain is over (just a few showers may linger). East of the District, the watch remains in effect, but it’s mostly southern Maryland (Charles, Calvert, and particularly St. Mary’s County) where downpours still pose a flood risk. And even there, rain should pull off rapidly after 10 to 11 p.m.
4:54 p.m. update: Andrea has lost tropical characteristics and is now a “post tropical storm” per the National Hurricane Center.
Despite the relentless rains since last night (amounting to 2-3+ inches), we’ve dodged the bullet in terms of flooding, as the intensity has never sustained itself at torrential levels. We’re not done yet, though, and one more batch coming through could fall quite heavily, especially east/southeast of the District, between about 7 and 11 p.m. The weekend is much improved but we can’t totally shake the chance of some scattered showers and thundershowers.
Through Tonight: Showers continue, with areas of heavier rain mainly concentrated east and southeast of I-95. Another 0.25-1 inches of rain are possible west of I-95 and 0.5-2 inches east of I-95. Isolated flooding of low lying areas and creeks and streams remains possible, but should not be widespread. Between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., the rain should taper off with cloudy skies and fog developing. Lows are in the low-to-mid 60s.
The weekend: Both days are partly to mostly cloudy, warm and moderately humid, with a small (20-30 percent) chance of afternoon showers and thundershowers. Highs are in the low 80s Saturday and low-to-mid 80s Sunday. Overnight lows Saturday night are in the 60s, under partly cloudy skies. Winds are generally light and from a variable direction.
