Summer humidity is on the rise the next few days, but thankfully we’ll avoid any big-time heat. We can’t avoid chances for showers and thunderstorms, however, which continue through midweek. Any showers and storms today should be of the isolated to scattered variety, with the potential for greater coverage Monday and especially Monday afternoon into evening, when some storms could be strong to severe.

Today (Sunday): A few isolated light showers may be scattered around during the morning hours among partly sunny skies.  As the day warms to highs in the low-to-mid 80s, the concern moves toward passing afternoon thunderstorms, but these should be scattered as well with chances around 30-40%.  Skies grow cloudier toward evening as winds from the south bring a noticeable rise in humidity. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Some showers or thundershowers remain possible with chances around 50%. The best chance may be during the evening and then again toward dawn as a warm front approaches, perhaps with less of a chance in between. It’s warm and sticky and there could be some pockets of fog/mist.  Winds are light from the south-southeast with lows ranging from the upper 60s in the suburbs to the low-to-mid 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Monday): It’s a humid one! As low pressure passes to our west, showers and thunderstorms are a threat throughout the day with an overall 60-70% chance. The heaviest, most widespread activity may wait for the late afternoon and evening. Partly to mostly cloudy skies should limit daytime highs to near 80 to the mid-80s, but could also allow enough sun through to fuel strong to severe thunderstorms during the late afternoon into evening. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower and storm chances stay up around 60-70% through the evening, and again some could be strong to severe, before tapering by or a bit after midnight. After the healthy dose of rain we saw on Friday, we’ll have to watch for a flooding threat if any storms try to repeatedly target the same area. Skies may show partial clearing toward morning, but some patchy fog is possible as well. Expect overnight lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium

There’s still some unsettledness left in the atmosphere on Tuesday, so we’ll keep a 30% chance of a shower or thundershower in the forecast. Afternoon highs should reach the mid-80s under partly sunny skies, followed by Tuesday night lows in the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

I was hoping to make a rain-free forecast at least one day this forecast period, but I can’t quite do it. A warm front extending into the region on Wednesday leaves us with a 20-30% chance for a shower or thundershower mainly in the afternoon. But overall it looks like a partly to mostly sunny and warm day with highs in the 80s. Confidence: Low-Medium
