Tropical storm Andrea launched the region into a wet pattern that continues this week. We’ll see downpours at times today, a bit of a break tomorrow, and then more opportunities for showers and storms from late Wednesday into Thursday.  The good news? The weather should quiet down Friday and for the balance of the weekend.

Today (Monday): A frontal system cutting through the region may bring two rounds of showers and storms, some of which are likely heavy.  The first may come through during the morning to midday hours and the second in the late afternoon and evening hours.  A period of several dry hours is possible in between, and if the sun emerges, we warm up to near 80 (and late day storms may be a bit more intense); otherwise, mid-70s should do it. Rainfall amounts are likely to be highly variable (isolated amounts of 2-3+ inches possible, especially southwest of the District), but amounts should average around one inch. Winds are from the south around 10 mph, and it’s quite humid. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Showers and storms remain likely before tapering off between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.  Then it’s partly to mostly cloudy, with lows from the low 60s in the cooler suburbs to the mid-to-upper 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A pretty good-looking early June day.  Skies are partly sunny, with highs in the low 80s.  Humidity lowers a bit from Monday – more in the moderate range (dew points: low 60s). Winds are from the west around 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: A tranquil, pleasant night, with lows from near 60 in the cooler suburbs to the mid-60s downtown. Skies are partly cloudy and winds are light. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday starts off just fine, but during the late afternoon or, more likely, the evening, showers and storms may threaten (30-40 percent chance)  Afternoon highs are in the mid-80s. After any evening storms, it’s partly to mostly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows 65-70. Confidence: Medium

The next cold front punches through the region Thursday.  Ahead of it, we may have a period of some sun, before a likely round of afternoon/evening showers and storms.  Highs range from 80-85. After any evening storms, we clear out Thursday night, with lows mostly in the 60s. Confidence: Medium

Friday and Saturday look like winners to me at this point, with partly to mostly sunny skies, comfortable humidity levels and enjoyably warm temperatures.  Highs both days are around 80, with overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to the low-to-mid 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Sunday is probably a decent day for the most part but, depending on the timing of the week’s third cold front, it may close out with the opportunity for a few showers and storms.  It’s a bit warmer and more humid, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. Confidence: Low-Medium
