Tornado at Denver International Airport (PHOTOS)

At approximately 2:24 p.m. mountain time, a tornado was spotted in the vicinity of Denver International Airport (DIA). The weather station at the airport clocked a 97 mph gust as the twister passed by (before the wind sensor was knocked out of commission).

The Daily Kos weather blog offers some additional detail:

The tornado was so close to the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar — the small Doppler radar used for Denver International Airport — that a “donut hole” was visible in the precipitation-free center of the tornado as it crossed between runways 34R and 34L. The tornado passed exactly 5,000 feet east of the A Gates.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries at the airport.
