Clouds were numerous during parts of the midday and that helped keep temperatures from getting past the near 90 to low 90s range. Plenty warm though, no? Those clouds produced some scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region, with the bulk of the severe weather staying south thus far. A thunderstorm watch continues into the evening, though the risk for severe weather should be isolated at most in the immediate area.

Through Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms wane as we head through the evening. I can’t totally rule out an isolated severe storm, but odds seem to be dwindling for that. As we get into the overnight, rain chances diminish to about 30%. Dew points remain up around 70, which means lows range from the upper 60s to the mid-70s. Patchy fog is possible in a few spots late night.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Skies may tend to be more cloudy than not most of the day, but a few sunnier breaks are also possible. A low pressure system passing by during the afternoon will help kick off another round of showers and thunderstorms (60-70% chance) in the second half of the day. All types of severe weather appear possible, but wind damage is likely the main risk other than heavy rain and lightning. Highs range from the mid-80s to low 90s, depending on our sun to cloud ratio.  Winds are from the south around 10 mph.

Western heat: Part of the balance to our storm threats over the coming period is a building ridge of high pressure over the west. Some all-time heat records may be at risk across the desert area in particular. Forecasts for Las Vegas are calling for 117 degrees as of today, which would tie the highest mark on record there. Death Valley might even approach 130! Ouch.

Pollen update: Tree, grass and weed pollens are all LOW. Mold spores are MODERATE/HIGH thanks to all the humidity around.
