8:45 p.m. update: A small area of storms developed south of the District in Prince William, southern Fairfax, northern Charles and southern Prince George’s counties, but these are now weakening as they head off towards the Bay. A few more isolated showers/storms may pop up over the next couple hours (see Twitter feed above), but  any lingering storms should die off by midnight.

From 4:56 p.m.: Despite the tornado watch, storms largely missed us to the north and northeast, or they were pretty tame. Most of us (not everyone) catch a break from storms overnight, but a new round is possible Friday.  And, unfortunately, the humidity isn’t going anywhere.

Through Tonight: Folks near the Bay may have some scattered showers and storms through around 6 p.m. But, all in all, it’s a fairly pleasant evening for most of the region.  Under partly cloudy skies, lows range from the upper 60s in the cooler suburbs to the low-to-mid 70s downtown.  Winds are light from the west and southwest.

Tomorrow (Friday): It’s another humid morning when you get up and head out, with at least partial sunshine into the afternoon.  Thunderstorms may well (better than 50/50 odds) erupt in the afternoon (most likely mid-to-late afternoon), and there’s the potential – once again – for some to be severe.  Exactly whether the potential materializes and where are open questions.  But whereas today activity focused north of the metro region, the metro region and points just to the south stand a better chance Friday.  We’ll keep you posted.  It’s warm and humid, with highs in the upper 80s.  Winds are from the southwest at 10-15 mph.
