Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Another day, another shot at t’storms. But a touch lower humidity warrants a slight bump up in the digit.

Express Forecast

Today: Partly sunny. 50% chance of p.m. showers and t’storms. Highs: Upper 80s to near 90.

Tonight: 50% chance of evening showers/storms, increasingly muggy. Lows: Upper 60s to low 70s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny and humid. 20% chance of a.m. shower. 40% chance of p.m. t’storms. Highs: Mid-to-upper 80s.

This warm and humid pattern of persistent showers and thunderstorms is no doubt getting a bit annoying when it comes to outdoor activities. But for some perspective, just remember where many of us were a year ago today — baking in 100-degree heat with a derecho marching toward us intent on paralyzing the D.C. area power grid. While we don’t have intense heat or a historic storm on the way today, we do have decent shower and storm chances over the next several days, along with plenty of humidity after a slightly less-humid respite today.

Today (Saturday): Can’t rule out early-morning showers (20% chance) but odds are they stay south and east of the area. mainly south and east of the District. Otherwise, partly sunny skies should prevail before we pick up a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms mid-afternoon into evening. Any storms that do develop could be strong and a couple could be severe. Highs reach the upper 80s to near 90 and the humidity is up there, but not as bad as tomorrow into the work week, with breezes around 10 mph from the southwest. Confidence: Medium

storm threat

Tonight: Shower and storm chances remain around 50% through the evening before diminishing overnight. Winds are light, but they’ll be from the south helping to pump that humidity higher. The moist air and partly to mostly cloudy skies team up for a mild night with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Sunday): The humidity is back in full force as morning temperatures rise through the 70s on their way to afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 80s under partly sunny skies. A 20% chance of a morning shower rises to a 40% chance of isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Winds stay light from the south near 10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances increase Sunday evening and overnight to around 60%, with perhaps a thunderstorm as well. The flow remains warm and muggy from the south with lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Shower and thunderstorms chances remain elevated around 60% on Monday through Tuesday. It won’t rain non-stop through the period, but at least occasional showers are a decent bet. And yes, it’s still very humid with highs in the 80s and Monday night lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
