Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

So-so? Depends on if you get stuck under a prolonged downpour. You may be sick of clouds? I kinda like the “shade” everywhere!

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly cloudy. Showers and storms at times. Highs: Upper 70s to low 80s.

Tonight: Mainly cloudy, rain still possible. Lows: Upper 60s to around 70.

Tomorrow: Mix of sun with clouds. Iso. shower/storm? Highs: Low-to-mid 80s.

Sunday: Muggy. Afternoon shower or storm? Lows: Mid-to-upper 80s.

After some serious flash flooding in the area late last night into this morning, we could all really use a break in the rainy pattern of late. No luck there just yet – more periods of heavy, potentially flooding rain are possible today. The good news is that we should see enough cloudiness and moisture to keep temperatures down below their typical July levels into tomorrow.  But heat might be lurking around the corner…

Today (Friday): We stay in a pattern like last night, which may favor very heavy rain that causes flooding in spots while leaving others wondering what the big deal is. One positive might be that the atmosphere kind of wore itself out last night, but showers and storms remain likely (60% chance) through the day. High temperatures may only make it to around 80, though upper 70s are possible NW of town, and low 80s possible SE of town. Subtract a few degrees if we see zero sunshine and heavier, steadier rain than currently expected. Moderate northeasterly 10-15 mph breezes assist in lowering the dew points below 70. Almost comfortable? Almost. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tonight: Substantial cloudiness and thunder/showers (50% chance) may continue. So please consider a sturdy umbrella or solid rain jacket if heading to any outdoor concert venues like Wolf Trap or Nats Park. Luckily temperatures are heading down toward slightly more comfortable overnight lows with National perhaps hitting 70 (optimism!) before sunrise, and upper 60s possible outside of the Beltway. North winds at 5-10 mph should still feel nice when they blow, intermittently Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Saturday): Consider this a decent day. Yes measly-looking skies may only be partially sunny at times, and a 30-40% chance of showers may threaten; however, Low-to-mid 80s with acceptable (June-like?) dew points make it feel decent. Get outdoors for a bit if you can. Maybe grab the umbrella if venturing far from home. Any light, north breeze may shift to the east later in the day. So don’t expect much breeze-chill! Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Somewhat calm and tolerable humidity levels—try to enjoy it if you can. Low temperatures still remain warm, though, around 70 even outside the Beltway—to mid-70s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Thanks to our summertime friend the Bermuda High offshore, temperatures warm a bit along with higher mugginess. Going hand-in-hand with these conditions are an increased (35-45% chance) of afternoon showers or storms. Afternoon temperatures may reach the mid-to-upper 80s. South of town, the 90 degree mark can’t be ruled out. Confidence: Medium

Sunday night: Stays mainly cloudy, even as any showers slowly taper off. Low temperatures may range from “cooler” upper 60s to a couple spots stuck in the mid-70s downtown. Confidence: Low-Medium

Monday may crank back up toward July-level heat with upper 80s, even a few low 90s. Plus more business for the dry cleaners: sweat-inducing, high humidity. Skies will have off-and-on clouds but enough sunshine to possibly (15-25% chance) bubbling up some thundershowers. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday looks pretty sunny and, again, pretty muggy. Highs in the upper 80s to around 90 is…standard fare is what to call it. Right? I will keep in here a 10% chance of shower or thunderstorm. Confidence: Low-Medium
