Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

This poor day is likely to have many detractors. Too many clouds for sun lovers and, for some gardeners, not enough rain. So just focus on the pleasant temps.

Express Forecast

Today: Showers, best chance in a.m. Highs: 80-84.

Tonight: Isolated showers possible early, then clearing. Lows: 64-69.

Tomorrow: Plenty of sun, lower humidity. Highs: 83-87.

Our subdued summer pattern remains alive and well! After likely showers today, drier air comes back for the weekend. Despite a hearty attempt at normal highs, the limited humidity keeps the sweat factor low. A few pesky showers may zip through Saturday (best chance at night) but that is the only mar on a finely-crafted weekend. Sunshine and even drier, cooler air pushes in for Sunday/Monday. Bring it on!

Today (Thursday): Today’s best chance of showers is in the morning (80% chance) with gradually decreasing chances by evening. A few localized downpours are possible; some areas may receive little rain. In the afternoon, there could even be some rays of sun slipping through the clouds. Highs do no better than the lower 80s. Breezes are light from the south. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: There is a risk for isolated evening showers, 30%, but my money is on the dry air winning out. Only a breath of breeze from the west is to be had and stars should regain the sky by midnight. Lows drift down to very comfortable mid-to-upper 60s.  Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Friday): The sun gains the upper hand and pushes temps up a bit more. Highs in most spots still stop at the mid-80s. A light wind from the northwest brings us lower humidity keeping it comfy despite the warm up. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The skies are clear, the air is dry and evening readings in the upper 70s beckon us out. Lows fall to the mid-to-upper 60s, except for lower 70s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Saturday is a warm day but not bad for early August. A Midwest shower system may try to spoil it (20% chance), but if timing works out as expected, we see only increased clouds in the afternoon. The showers look more likely to hold off until the overnight (40% chance) which would be nice of them. Daytime highs should only reach the mid-80s, if our clouds increase on cue. Lows fall back to the mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Early risers on Sunday are treated to a crescent moon in the company of Jupiter and Mars. But for most of us that prefer not to beat the sun rise there is plenty to like. Sun galore and even lower humidity is pushing hard for a nice day stamp. The breezes from the northwest should be brisk but that keeps highs in the lower 80s. Overnight lows fall to the upper 50s in cool suburbs, with low-to-mid 60s for most other areas. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday dawns quite refreshing. Highs do no better than lower 80s for a second straight day and humidity is low by anyone’s standards. Confidence: Medium
