Temperature Map

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

Highs in the mid-and-upper 70s along with abundant sunshine and a breeze? Must be late September. Or perhaps D.C. shifted to Maine recently. If you find yourself out this evening you might even feel a chill! Grab a sweater? More of this good stuff ahead…

Through Tonight: Bubbly clouds of the day diminish as we head into sunset, though a few high clouds might keep drifting by at times. Pleasant, with a breeze weakening to about 5-10 mph. Lows might bottom around 50 in the coolest suburbs, while downtown settles around 60.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Take today, cut back the wind a smidge, and perhaps turn temperatures up a notch. For August, darn near perfect! Highs reach the upper 70s to around 80. Winds eventually flip to a more southerly direction, around 5-10 mph.

Smartphone weather station: Crowdsourcing is hot, and weather researchers are increasingly jumping into the fray to take advantage of multiplying data sources. Enter the OpenWeather smartphone app. After finding a correlation between smartphone battery temperatures in various environmental conditions to air temperature, developers have been able to calculate readings within 3 degrees (F) of actual. As more users join the system, accuracy should improve. It may ultimately allow for very localized specifics on temperature data that is presently reserved for a few stations scattered about a region.

Pollen update: Weed pollen is moderate, and mold spores are very high. Tree and grass pollen is low.
