Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the days weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

A third straight terrific summer day. Minus one for Monday and minor uptick in humidity.

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs: 83-86.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, slight storm chance. Lows: 65-70.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, more humid, chance of storms. Highs: 86-90.

The beautiful weekend weather extends into a third day, but recent cooler than average conditions are about to take a pause. On Tuesday and Wednesday, heat and humidity return along with the chance of storms. Rain chances diminish Thursday into next weekend, but temperatures are warmer than normal, with highs hovering near 90. This is toasty to be sure, but the core of the heat will remain over the Plains and Midwest sparing us the worst.

Today (Monday): High pressure sits over the area today meaning plenty of warm sunshine. Highs range from the low-to-mid 80s with light winds from the southwest at 5-10 mph. Humidity holds off until tonight and tomorrow, with dew points still mainly in the 50s to perhaps 60. Confidence: High

Tonight: Humidity slowly increases overnight and it’s not as refreshing as recent nights.  A little disturbance rippling through the atmosphere could set off a few storms, but odds are generally low (10-25 percent chance, south to north) and favor locations north of the District. Under partly cloudy skies, lows range from 65 to 70 (downtown).  Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday brings the week’s best chance of showers and storms (timing still somewhat uncertain, but best odds in the afternoon), at around 50 percent.  It’s variably cloudy, very warm and humid, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90.  Storms may linger into the evening, then partly cloudy skies.  Overnight lows are in the 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

The period from Thursday-Sunday appears mostly tranquil, but very warm.  Under partly sunny skies, highs are generally in the upper 80s with some low 90s possible, especially by the weekend.  Humidity levels range from moderate Thursday and Friday, to moderate-high over the weekend.  Overnights lows are in the 60s to near 70 (downtown) Thursday and Friday warming to the upper 60s to mid-70s by the weekend. Confidence: Medium
