PM Update: Cool tonight, sunny on Tuesday; Ingrid soaks Mexico

Though a dark cloud hangs over D.C. after this morning’s Navy Yard shooting, the weather has taken a turn for the better. A cold front clearing the area is taking gray skies with it, and bringing us another fresh air mass out of Canada. The only downside about tomorrow is that it’s a Tuesday.

Through Tonight: Clouds continue to diminish this evening, and we’re mostly clear overnight. Winds probably don’t die off all that much, blowing around 5-10 mph from the north, and that helps keep temperatures from really plummeting. Still, lows should range mostly from the upper 40s to the mid-50s, perhaps some mid-40s in the typically coldest spots.

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Beautiful. The end. OK, details… Mostly or fully sunny, with a light breeze from the north and northeast. Highs make the upper 60s and lower 70s for the most part.

Ingrid landfall: Tropical Storm Ingrid hit Mexico this morning, with sustained winds around 65 mph at landfall. Ingrid previously peaked at 85 mph over the weekend before weakening on its trek toward shore. The storm is still expected to dump flooding rains in combination with remnants from Tropical Storm Manuel that came ashore along the Pacific coast in recent days. So far, the two storms have killed at least 33 people. Some of the moisture from the two systems is expected to be drawn north into the U.S. over coming days.

Pollen update: Weed pollen is moderate and mold spores are low/moderate. Tree and grass pollen is low.
