Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows: Upper 50s to mid-60s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Highs: Low 80s.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

October in Washington is known for crisp mornings and decently mild afternoons, often with highs in the 60s and 70s. In other words, fantastic weather by most any standard. So it’s understandable that some might be disappointed by a return to the more summery 80s. That said, we had our share of cooler-than-average days during the heart of the summer. So turnabout is fair play. Plus, with humidity on the low side it still feels quite nice even if a bit warm.

Today (Wednesday): High pressure centered to our southwest sets us up for a summery day today. Mostly sunny skies helps lift morning temperatures into the 70s, while a light but warm breeze from the west near 10 mph probably pushes afternoon highs to the mid-to-upper 80s. Humidity is on the low side so it should feel fairly nice out there. Confidence: High

Tonight: A mild evening is followed by a cooler overnight, but still a good 5-10 degrees above average with lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Winds are light or even calm. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Partly cloudy skies and cooler winds from the southeast knock us down a few degrees. But there’s still enough sun to keep things plenty mild with highs heading for the low 80s. Those winds from the southeast stay light, around 10 mph or less. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Continued partly cloudy and pleasant Thursday night, with more of those mild-for-October lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

At this point all signs point to mostly more of the same for Friday through Sunday. Skies should be partly sunny with highs in the low-to-mid 80s, and a 20-30% chance of a shower on Sunday. Near 60 to mid-60s should do it for Friday night and Saturday night lows. Confidence: Medium
