Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Any passing shower only adds to the noticeable chill. Not super cold, but then again we’re not used to it.

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly to partly cloudy. A few showers? Highs: Mid-50s.

Tonight: Clearing skies, cold. Lows: Mid-30s to low 40s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, a bit breezy. Slight chance of shower. Highs: Mid-50s.

Our cold snap starts with a brisk day in the 40s and 50s today, perhaps even a few showers for some. Temperatures then dip into the 30s for some tonight, and for most tomorrow night. The farther north and west you go from D.C., the better the chance of touching that freezing mark tomorrow night. Too cold for you? All hope is not lost, as we may get to 60 again by Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): A few showers may come through this morning (40-50% chance) especially from around the District toward points south and east, with a trailing shower or two possible during the afternoon (25% chance). Mostly cloudy morning skies may turn partly sunny during the afternoon. But a breeze near 10 mph from the north-northwest keep things feeling brisk with highs only in the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: While evening skies may hang on to some clouds, eventually clearing skies should take hold overnight. That allows temperatures to sink as a cold breeze blows in from the west-northwest around 10-15 mph, sending overnight lows down to the mid-to-upper 30s (suburbs) to low 40s (downtown). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Temperatures are about the same as today with highs heading for the mid-50s under partly sunny skies. But it may be a bit breezier as winds from the west-northwest at 10-20 mph add to the chill. Can’t completely rule out a sprinkle or passing light shower (20% chance). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Temperatures drop down another yet another notch under partly cloudy skies. We’re talking lows in the low-to-mid 30s in the north and west suburbs, to the mid-to-upper 30s in the city and to the south and east. Confidence: Medium-High

We remain a good deal cooler than average Friday through Sunday, but with partly to mostly clear skies and precipitation chances less than 20%. Highs should warm a bit, from the mid-to-upper 50s on Friday and Saturday to near 60 on Sunday. Overnight lows show a similar warming trend, dipping to the 30s again on Friday night, but only to the upper 30s to low 40s on Saturday night. Confidence: Medium
