You may want to bring in any outdoor Halloween decorations before heading to bed as a burst of wind is possible after midnight, especially if you live in the western part of the area.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for northern Fauquier, Loudoun, and Frederick counties (and points west) from midnight to 8 a.m. Friday.
Winds from the south at 15-30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph are possible, as a cold front barrels across the region.
Isolated to scattered tree and power line damage is possible.
The strongest winds (50 mph gust potential) are most likely at high elevations, above 1,500 feet.
