Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Cool, Novemberish day with considerable cloud cover, but warmer than yesterday.

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly cloudy. Highs: 50-55.

Tonight: Cloudy and cool. Lows: 40-47.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, warmer. Highs: 59-64.

Our weather patterns are on the move and that means plenty of variability in the days ahead.  Big high pressure that delivered yesterday’s chilliest day of the season so far slowly edges off the Eastern Seaboard today and tomorrow.  Clockwise flow around that high should start to pump in warmer weather by tomorrow and Thursday, but we don’t get much of a warm-up before another big cold front sweeps through Thursday afternoon with some showers.  The front delivers a chilly Friday and Saturday before a bit more warming Sunday as we keep bouncing along.

Today (Tuesday):  We have another cool to cold start to the day with morning lows in the 30s again in most spots.  But our cool to cold air mass is starting to moderate, so temperatures today are able to push a bit more: into the lower to middle 50s despite predominant cloud cover overhead.  Light winds come from the east and northeast.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Cloudy skies prevent temperatures from dropping as much, so we should only dip halfway down to prior days into the lower 40s in the outer suburbs to middle to upper 40s in the city.  Light winds come mainly from an easterly direction.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): High pressure gets far enough offshore to turn our winds to a warmer direction (from the south) at 5-10 mph and push our high temperatures to around 60 or the low-to-mid 60s in some areas.   Skies are cloud-dominated again, so it will still feel coolish.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy, but warmer lows only in the lower to middle 50s as a mild southerly breeze continues to push milder weather into the area.  Confidence: Medium-High

Thursday brings yet another cold front with showers expected toward midday and in the afternoon.  At this time, the short-lived nature of the showers suggest we shouldn’t expect anything too heavy or long-lasting, but it’s an umbrella day for sure.  The cold front is forecast to sweep into the area by early to middle afternoon, so the showers may be gone by evening rush hour.  Highs should be the warmest of the week with middle to upper 60s, but given clouds and showers, it may not be consistently at those levels in the afternoon.  Thursday night is breezy and cooler with partly cloudy skies, and temperatures dropping toward the middle to upper 30s by Friday’s dawn.   Confidence: Medium

Friday should be partly to mostly sunny, cooler, and breezy as highs stall out in the 50s again.  Friday night is on the colder side with a few clouds as lows drop into the 30s (upper in city and lower in outer suburbs).  Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend starts on the colder than normal side with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s and 40s, but then shifts a bit warmer by Sunday as temperatures should reach or slightly exceed 60 degrees, which is not bad as we make our way toward the middle of November.  And to add value to the weekend, we expect partly to mostly sunny skies most of the time.  Confidence: Medium-High
