Today’s temperatures were right around normal, for late December. If you’re not a fan of low-to-mid 40s for highs you’re in luck, they’re already on their way out. We’ve got another frozen night ahead, but readings rebound about 10 degrees tomorrow compared to today.

Through Tonight: Any remnant clouds die off with sunset, helping many spots outside the city quickly drop to near freezing. It’s cold, and with winds slackening it might even end up colder than last night many spots. Lows are mostly in the mid-20s to near 30. Winds eventually become light.

Tomorrow (Thursday): We start off with an ice-cold morning, but our temperature rebound begins thanks to plentiful sunshine and a directional change in the winds. After the winter onslaught of the past two days, afternoon temperatures rising to a range from near 50 to as high as the mid-50s should feel quite pleasant. Winds are light from the southwest.

Pollen update: All pollen types are currently low.

Early freeze: D.C. officially picked up its first freeze this morning, with Reagan National Airport (DCA) hitting 32 on the nose. This comes a few days before the average first date of November 18. It’s also the earliest that DCA has hit freezing since 2006, when the first freeze — an extra chilly 29 — came on Nov. 4. Pretty much the entire area has had a freeze now. Dulles recorded its first on Oct. 25 and BWI on Oct. 26. The former was slightly later than average while the latter was slightly earlier than typical.
