Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Less sun than Friday, but remaining rather tranquil. Still a little cool for my liking.

Express Forecast

Today:  Turning partly to mostly cloudy. Highs: Near 40 to low 40s.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Lows: Upper 20s to mid-30s.

Tomorrow: Turning partly cloudy by afternoon. Highs: Mid-40s.

Today will make it one week straight that D.C. has had below (and often well below) average temperatures. With all the recent chill, the monthly average should finish around three degrees below normal. Besides the continued cool weather, we’ve got a fair amount of cloudiness in the days ahead, but we should also salvage some sunnier times this weekend.  There’s also something of a warming trend into coming days… Well, we head closer toward normal at least.

Today (Saturday): An onshore flow and some clouds approaching from the west should both help lead to a fairly cloudy day, but we could eke out periods of sunshine, especially in the morning. Partly due to increased cloud cover compared to Friday, temperatures are probably a tad cooler, or mainly in the near 40 to low 40s range. Winds are light from the northeast, around 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds should stay rather numerous into the evening before some potential clearing late. Temperatures between 27-34 seem about the best bet, but if we clear out quick enough maybe take a degree or two off that. Winds are light from the southeast.   Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Skies may start off partly to mostly cloudy, though I think we’ll end up seeing at least part of the day with acceptable levels of sunshine. Afternoon appears clearest for now. Highs should slightly moderate, heading at least to the mid-40s and maybe upper 40s. Winds are light and variable, perhaps swinging back to the northeast. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Skies are partly cloudy or cloudier, which helps keep temperatures up a bit. Most spots end up in the near 30 to mid-30s range, and that could be upper 30s downtown. Confidence: Medium

Temperatures should try to climb a little again Monday, as highs head for near 50 across the area. Clouds increase through the day, thanks to a storm system taking shape off the North Carolina coast. Indications continue to point to it largely missing the area, but it’s close enough to introduce at least a 20% chance of showers and maybe snow showers during the evening or overnight. Lows dip into the 33-38 range. Confidence: Medium

On Tuesday skies may stay rather cloudy, but I’d expect at least some breaks by afternoon. There’s only a slight chance of an early morning rain or snow shower. Highs are in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Confidence: Medium
