Temperature Map

Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.

Temperatures on this last day of 2013 were pretty close to where they should be, with a range from the low 40s to the upper 40s across the area. Winds have been gusty though, making it feel considerably colder especially when in shaded spots. As the sun goes down, temperatures will too, but the wind decreases as well.

Through Tonight: Skies are mostly clear early, with just some periods of high cloudiness late. By 7 p.m. or so, we’re in the mid-30s to around 40 most spots, and ball drop temperatures should be in the 26-32 range or thereabouts. So, probably 20s for the majority of the region, except those of us in the most urban locations. Winds which were up today should fall off considerably with sunset, and they are fairly light by midnight. Outside all night to catch the first sunrise of the year? You’ll be dealing with lows ranging from near 20 in the coldest suburbs to near 30 in the city.

New Year’s Day (Wednesday): 2014 and January both start off on a pretty average note. We should see a little more cloudiness compared to today, but no worse than partly cloudy on the whole. Highs are close to what we just saw, ranging from low 40s in the colder spots to mid-and-upper 40s in the warm. Winds are pretty light, around 5 mph, from the south or southeast.
