Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Want to highly rate a fairly bright Friday flirting with 40 degrees (for most of us). Enjoy the calm day!

Express Forecast

Today: Sunshine mostly wins over clouds. Highs: 38-43.

Tonight: Increasing clouds near dawn. Lows: Low-to-mid 20s.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, light snow or snow rain mix possible. Highs: 30-35.

Sunday: More flurries, rain/snow showers possible. Highs: Near 40.

Small snow threats may be on their way, but no guarantees. We don’t have the coldest of air to mix with any of these small storm systems, but that in and of itself may be slightly “enjoyable” or easier to handle. Are these upcoming storm systems a letdown for snow lovers, or good for the pragmatists among us? We’ll keep you updated on the accumulation potential, while you vote in the comments section below.

Today (Friday): Overall, sunshine should win out over clouds. High temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s are possible, with some light westerly winds potentially kicking us a few degrees higher. To reach full potential we will need to stay very sunny. Confidence: High

Tonight: Clouds may slowly thicken into periodically overcast skies toward dawn. Low temperatures still manage to dip nicely before clouds blanket us, into the low-to-mid 20s. Winds remain fairly calm. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Saturday): Skies should stay very cloudy, with the best chance (60%) of light snow, or snow and rain, impacting our area during the morning and afternoon. In a snowy scenario, a dusting to a perhaps a few inches or so seems the most likely range of accumulation, but we need to keep an eye on it and watch the new data come in. Expect updates! Temperatures are likely to hover right around to just above freezing during precipitation, maybe rising to the mid-30s or so after it stops, if it’s early enough in the afternoon. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Low temperatures in the mid-to-upper 20s could allow some snow showers and flurries (20% chance) to stick around, but nothing to worry about too much (maybe an additional dusting or coating). Skies stay fairly cloudy, even when no flakes fall. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Sunshine could shine through some of the increasing clouds, and some flurries could fly. The bulk, if any, snow activity may not arrive until the afternoon at the earliest. We may even see a mixture of a little bit of rain. It remains to be seen how much accumulation, if any, these snow showers or short period of light snow can muster. High temperatures near 40 are possible, thus posing an obstacle to snow accumulation. Precipitation chances stand at only about 40% but potentially on the way up. Confidence: Low-Medium

Snow Potential Index

A daily assessment of the potential for at least ~1″ of snow in the next week, on a 0-10 scale.

5 (→) Two chances this weekend. Another system next week? Saturday event has best odds of whitening ground for now.

Sunday night: Snow showers and flurries could continue, but the best chance of any light accumulation is north of the District extending into southern New England. Low temperatures probably dip into the teens, region-wide. Chance of precipitation remains around 40%, so it isn’t a sure bet. Bundle up if out for a while, some breezes could pick up and create a wind chill. Confidence: Low-Medium

Monday’s skies should slowly clear and show us some sun with upper 20s possible in the coldest spots north and west of town. But mid-30s are possible south of town, assuming the sun dominates. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday’s conditions should give us one more “break” day, perhaps, before we start eying the next potential storm developing to our south. For now, enjoy partly-to-mostly sunny skies, with temperatures around 30 to mid-30s possible. Confidence: Low-Medium
