Cherry blossoms frame the Jefferson Memorial (Kevin Ambrose)

A research team from the University of Washington and Korea has developed a sophisticated model that predicts the peak bloom date of Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossoms.  This year, it forecasts a peak bloom of April 10, a few days earlier than the Capital Weather Gang’s official prediction of April 13, published yesterday.

The infographic below describes this model and illustrates its predictions since 1991.
