The last gasp of winter gives it up and, in general, a fine Easter weekend is on tap. There is a close call on Saturday with shower systems to our north and south but best bet is dryness holds for the next 5 days. Seasonable warmth (near 70) for the weekend ensures that egg hunts and kite flying are back in demand. The cherry blossoms may have all blown away but plenty of daffodils and tulips, redbuds and dogwoods make a trip to the local park a worthwhile activity.

Today (Thursday): Much of the day should be agreeably bright but some clouds may stream in midday into the afternoon. Winds from the east at 10-15 mph keep a chill in the air as highs only reach the upper 50s. Confidence: High

Tonight: The evening readings quickly drop to the 40s so keep the coat handy for any outdoor jaunts. Clouds continue to increase slowly.  With just light east winds, lows fall into the mid-to-upper 30s. There could be a spot or two of frost in northern suburbs still but not as cold as the last two nights. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Clouds are in abundance with just occasional glimpses of the sun. That keeps the warm up on hold with highs still stuck in the mid-to-upper 50s. No rain threats from these clouds and, with only very light winds, it’s still an enjoyable spring day for anyone out and about. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Winds remain calm and skies remain cloudy. Evening readings hold in the lower 50s for a reasonable stroll. Overnight lows still slip lower than normal with readings in the upper 30s suburbs to lower 40s downtown. Confidence: High

Saturday will still struggle to get out of the clouds as a weak system to our north and a more significant one to our south vie to blot out the sun. However, Mother Nature has had enough and allows highs to bounce up to the mid-to-upper 60s despite the impediments. Breezes from the east are brisk so a light jacket may still be welcome. There is a 20% risk that a shower from the southern system could reach the area but the greater risk is on the Delmarva (60%). Skies slowly clear overnight leading to another chilly one with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Confidence: Medium

Easter Sunday cooperates for sunrise services with mostly clear skies but with a chill to go along (near 40). Abundant sun through the day does its magic and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s is as much a treat as a basketful of Peeps! The evening is calm and mild with improving overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 40s.  Confidence: Medium-High

Monday is another warm one with highs in the low-to-mid 70s despite a gradual increase in clouds. That should ensure that the Easter Egg Roll at the White House is a winner! Confidence: Medium-High
