Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

Hard to improve on plenty of sun, highs near 80 and lower humidity on Mother’s Day!

Express Forecast

Today: Partly to mostly sunny and pleasant. Highs: Near 80 to low 80s.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows: Low-to-mid 60s.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly sunny, more humid. Upper 80s to near 90.

The rain is gone and the weather turns nicer just in time to celebrate all of the Moms out there. So, from us at CWG, you’re welcome. The balance of today should feature plenty of sun and pleasant weather for whatever you might have planned. However summer-ish heat and some humidity, too, quickly build to start the work week with a couple days near 90 possible. With that heat and humidity increasing, so do our chances of showers and thunderstorms as we get into the midweek.

Today (Mother’s Day): After the potential for some early-to-mid morning fog, a good deal of sun should prevail for most of the day, ’cause mama said so. Temperatures are still on the warm side, and during the afternoon rise to highs near 80 to the low 80s.  Light winds from the west/northwest (from the southwest later in the afternoon) near 5-10 mph help dry out the air compared to yesterday, leaving us with a fantastic close to the weekend.  Happy Mother’s Day! Confidence: High

Tonight: Light winds more from the south allow the humidity to creep up a bit overnight. We’re not looking at the height of summer mugginess, but it’s a warm evening compared to what we’ve seen much of this spring. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy, with some patchy fog possible toward morning, and lows stay up in the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): High pressure out over the Atlantic really starts pumping in the warmth as we head back to work.  It’s an early taste of summer as highs soar at least to the upper 80s, perhaps even logging our first 90-degree day of the season as humidity approaches the moderate range. Skies are partly to mostly sunny, but we’ll need to watch for a slight (10-20%) chance for an afternoon shower or thunderstorm (more likely north or northwest toward the MD-PA border and out west in the mountains). Winds are from the south-southwest around 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: If you’ve made it this far without it, this might be the night to switch on the A/C.  Partly cloudy and calm conditions continue our summer preview with some stickiness. The still air is also conducive for some fog developing overnight, with lows only dropping to the mid-60s in the suburbs, with upper 60s to low 70s more likely downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Tuesday features more of the same as far as the warmth goes. We’re looking to get back into the upper 80s to low 90s for highs along with partly sunny skies. We’re watching a better chance (40%) for a few showers or thunderstorms, and with the heat and higher humidity around a few stronger storms can’t be ruled out with heavy rain and strong winds. Thunderstorms could linger for the first part of the night with overnight lows from the mid-60s to the low 70s. Confidence: Medium

A cold front closes in from the west on Wednesday giving a charge to the juiced up atmosphere. That charge results in a cloudier, cooler, but still somewhat sticky day. The air mass is still a generally warm one, but with more clouds and a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, our temperatures are held in check with highs in the mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium-High
