When a back door cold front collided with a struggling complex of storms in D.C.’s western suburbs Tuesday evening, it was literally electrifying. The suddenly rejuvenated storms, energized by the front and the hot unstable air ahead of it, produced frequent lightning, torrential rain and even some small hail in Reston.
