Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Mehhh. Patchy fog, drizzle, showers, clouds–not too disruptive though–especially if we can clear some later.

Express Forecast

Today: Cloudy, some rain drops possible. Late clearing? Highs: 60s if cloudy, 70s if clearing.

Tonight: Slowly clearing, outside shower chance. Lows: Mid-50s to low 60s.

Tomorrow: Sunny, slightly breezy. Highs: 76-83.

Sunday: Splendid. Highs: Upper 70s to mid-80s.

The gateway to a clearer, warmer weekend (and the start of Meteorological Summer on Sunday) is today’s overcast skies and somewhat cool air. I think it’s comfortable. But everyone should be comfortable with this weekend’s 70s and perhaps 80s. We don’t get muggy again until the work week begins. Another taste of summer could be en route!

Clouds: Latest mid-Atlantic infrared satellite shows movement of clouds over past two hours. Refresh page to update. See more maps on our Weather Wall.

Today (Friday): Could see clouds–even some fog, showers, drizzle–stick around for a good part of the day. Slight chance the entire day? The northeasterly breezes 5-10 mph will wedge us in with maritime air from the Bay and Ocean–unclear for how long though. With luck during the afternoon, we see some breaks in the clouds and enjoy a colorful sunset. If sunshine breaks through, low-to-mid 70s should reign; but, subtract as many as 10 degrees if the clouds hang tough. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tonight: Some stars may slowly become visible, especially with clearing expected later in the overnight hours. We still may have a 10% chance of a shower, but it would be brief and light–if at all. Breezes shift out of the north to northwesterly direction and generally remain light around 5 mph. Low temperatures may dip into the mid-50s outside the Beltway, but low 60s are possible downtown. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Saturday): Embrace the awesomeness. With sunscreen of course. Because sunny skies and low humidity is a recipe for high UV. If in the shade, you could perhaps enjoy refreshing northerly breezes around 10 mph as high temperatures warm into the 76-83 degree range. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Could be mostly clear, fairly calm, and relatively crisp. Enjoy a crescent moon and what should be Jupiter underneath. Low temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s (downtown) should make it a windows-open night. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: Might be a close copy of Saturday but only needing to add a degree or two. Afternoon high temperatures in the Upper 70s should be reached for most, boosted by mostly sunny skies. Assuming we do not see many afternoon clouds (but it is possible) even a few mid-80s are possible south of town. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday night: Looks clear, comfortable. One last chance to dine on the patio! By just before dawn, low temperatures should range from mid-50 (suburbs) to near 60 downtown. Confidence: High

By Monday we could start feeling a bit more sticky. Temperatures under mostly sunny skies manage to get at least into the low 80s, if not closer to 90, south of town. Remains to be seen if the airmass can heat to that extent. Some clouds and haze may develop in the afternoon. There is even around 10-15% chance that a late afternoon storm may pop – so consider a small umbrella late in the day, perhaps. Confidence: Medium

Tuesday’s weather gets (even more) summerlike. Showers and storms are likely, amidst muggy high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. As it appears now, we may only have a 40-50% chance of a cooling shower or storm. Seek that shade and sunscreen! Confidence: Low-Medium
