Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Magnificent overall, Minus 1 for Monday, and minus 1 for minor mugginess.

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs: 80-85.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows: 58-65.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny, afternoon/evening storm chance. Highs: 84-88.

For the last several weeks the beginning and end of weeks have served up fabulous weather, while the midweek periods have dealt the stormy hand.  This week follows that same pattern.  Today is terrific but Tuesday and Wednesday night and Thursday see storm chances.  Quieter weather arrives Friday into Saturday, possibly lasting through Sunday.

nice day
Today (Monday): It’s an outstanding beach or pool day; too bad most of us are back to work. Skies are partly to mostly sunny, with highs 80-85.  Although humidity edges slightly higher compared to the weekend, it’s still very tolerable, with dew points mostly in the mid-50s.  The light breeze from the south around 10 mph adds to the day’s pleasant vibe. Confidence: High

Tonight: Partly cloudy and very enjoyable for an evening stroll or outdoor dining.  Temperatures slowly fall back through the 70s.  Humidity continues its gradual rise – reaching moderate levels by morning, with lows from the upper 50s in the cooler suburbs to mid-60s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): A taste of D.C summer time!  The humidity builds to moderate-to-high levels and the mercury notches up as well.  Under partly sunny skies, highs reach the mid-to-upper 80s, with winds from the south and southwest at around 10 mph.  By late afternoon, there’s a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms,  few of which could be strong. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Expect scattered evening showers and storms (50-60 percent chance); once daylight fades so do storm chances, but there remains a 30 percent chance of rain and maybe a little thunder through the predawn hours.  Overwise, it’s mostly cloudy and muggy, with lows near 60 in our cooler suburbs to the upper 60s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Most of the daylight hours on Wednesday are probably dry (just an outside chance of an isolated afternoon storm), though very warm and a bit humid.  Under partly to mostly sunny skies, highs reach 85-90.  Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday night (especially late) into Thursday is likely to see a round or two of storms as a fairly vigorous weather system tracks through the region. Some of the storms could be strong to severe depending on their timing and how the weather system evolves.  Lows Wednesday night are in the 60s, with highs Thursday in the 80s.  Confidence: Medium

Friday through Sunday – on balance – look pretty good to me, with partly sunny days and seasonably warm temperatures.  On Friday, there’s a slight (20 percent) chance a front lingers close enough to the region to trigger a few storms, but more likely to our east and southeast.  And on Sunday, a new front may approach and offer up some afternoon/evening storm (30 percent) chances.  Highs throughout this period should be in the low-to-mid 80s, with overnight lows mostly in the 60s (perhaps some 50s in our cooler suburbs).  Confidence: Medium
