FORECAST IN DETAIL

Every day this work week brings humidity and a chance of afternoon and evening storms. Wednesday and Thursday offer the highest rain chances. But there are two big positives in this forecast: 1) Still no signs of any extreme heat and humidity, 2) The week’s lowest rain chances coincide with the weekend.

Today (Monday): A small (20 percent) chance of morning showers; otherwise, variably cloudy, warm and humid – with temps rising through the 70s. In afternoon, highs reach the mid-80s, and the chance of showers and storms increases to 50 to 60 percent, highest odds from the District north. Storms could produce some downpours, gusty winds, and lightning, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Winds are from the south and southwest around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Showers and storms should wane after dark, with generally partly to mostly cloudy skies. A little fog is possible late at night and towards morning, with lows 63-69 (suburbs-city). Light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Partly sunny and warm; there’s a dying front over the region that may fuel a few storms; storm coverage may be a bit less than other days this work week with chances in the 30 percent range. Highs reach the mid-80s with moderate to high humidity. Lights winds from the south. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: A small chance of evening storms (30 percent); otherwise, partly cloudy and mild, with lows 62-68 (suburbs-city). Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Showers and storms are a good bet Wednesday and Thursday (60 percent chance), with highest chances in the afternoon and evening hours – thanks to a front in the vicinity. It continues warm and humid with highs both days in the mid-80s and overnight lows in the 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High

The front responsible for the storm chances Wednesday and Thursday fades Friday, but there’s enough lingering moisture for a 40 percent chance of storms. Highs are once again around the mid-80s. Partly cloudy Friday night, with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium

We go for our 5th straight fantastic weekend. Weak high pressure tries to build into the region and that should reduce rain chances below 20 percent both days. Skies are partly to mostly sunny, with seasonably warm highs in the mid-80s. Humidity probably drops a notch compared to levels during the work week. Saturday night should be mostly clear and pleasant, with lows in the 60s. Confidence: Medium
