We’re playing a hot hand when it comes to weekend weather in Washington, D.C. Since the beginning of April, 19 out of the last 20 weekend days (20 of 21 if you include Memorial Day) have had no measurable rain during the daylight hours.
The only “wet” weekend day occurred Saturday, May 10 – when 0.16″ of rain fell in the afternoon.
Not only have weekends largely been rain-free, but the temperatures have been extremely comfortable. Every single weekend day in this dry stretch has had highs in the 60s (5 days), 70s (8 days), or 80s (7 days) – with no extreme heat or unseasonably chilly weather. Overnight lows have also been pleasantly moderate – mostly in the 50s (10 nights) and 60s (6 nights); the few chilly nights in the 30s (1 night) and 40s (3 nights) occurred in April.
The amazing part of all of this is that this period – overall – has been much wetter than average. Through a stroke of luck, almost all of our rain has fallen during the work week. Consider May’s total rainfall was 4.96″, 0.97″ above average and April’s total rain was 6.47″, 3.41″ above normal.

The forecast for next weekend? You guessed it: dry.
