Two fierce lines of storms pounded Chicago Monday night in succession, with blinding rain (Midway Airport logged 0.8 inches in 7 minutes), wind gusts to 70 mph, and frequent lightning.  The Chicago Tribune reports the “double-fisted” storm – part of a powerful derecho complex –  flooded city streets and knocked out power to 382,000 customers.

The storms harnessed tremendous energy which turned them into lightning-generating machines. The Willis (Sears) Tower was hit multiple times and captured on camera and video.
