As many opportunities for rain have disintegrated in the last two weeks, it’s starting to get a little dry across the region.  Parched lawns should, however, get a nice watering tonight and Tuesday as a slow-moving cold front moves through the region.  Then, we’ll enjoy yet another extended stretch of outstanding summer weather – with sunshine, not too hot temperatures, and generally low humidity.

Today (Monday): Partly sunny into the afternoon, then gradually clouding over.  There’s a  chance of showers mid-to-late afternoon mainly in the western areas – with odds ranging from 40 percent west of Fairfax and Montgomery County to just 20 percent east of the District.  Highs are mostly in the low 80s with moderate to high humidity. Winds from the southeast at 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Periods of showers are likely throughout the region (70 percent chance). Rainfall totals are highly variable but should average 0.25″ or so. Lows are mostly in the mid-to-upper 60s. Light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): This may be the rainiest day we’ve had in a while.  Showers and thundershowers are likely; downpours are possible at any time, but the best chance is in the afternoon and evening hours.  Extensive cloud cover holds highs to around 80, with high humidity.  Rainfall amounts average around 0.5″, but some 1″ totals are possible.  Winds are from the southeast at around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Showers and thundershowers may continue through around midnight.  Then, skies very slowly transition from cloudy to partly cloudy as it dries out.  Lows range from the low 60s in our cooler suburbs to the upper 60s downtown.   Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday through Sunday has the potential to be the nicest 5-day stretch of the summer. Days are partly to mostly sunny, with highs in the low 80s Wednesday through Friday, edging into the mid-80s by the weekend.  Humidity levels are low through Friday, creeping into the moderate range over the weekend.  Nights are mostly clear and pleasant, with lows in the 50s in our cooler suburbs to the low-to-mid 60s downtown.  Rain chances are nearly non-existent. Confidence: Medium-High
