Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Fall lovers like me are not amused with the heat and humidity hold over.

Express Forecast

Today: Variably cloudy, warm. Highs: 86-90.

Tonight: Mostly clear, humid. Lows: 68-72.

Tomorrow: A few clouds, still humid. Highs: 87-91.

The potential of three straight days of around 90 is not my idea of a good time and, while not oppressive, the  humidity is enough to keep heat index in the vocabulary. A cold front enters late Saturday and is timed well to probably give us a decent line of thundershowers. That is my last hope to keep from finally breaking out the sprinkler,  so fingers crossed.

Sunday through Tuesday get  more in  the swing of things calendar-wise with cooler and drier air.  This makes for much nicer viewing of the Harvest Moon rise on Monday evening.

Today (Thursday): There is a very slight (less than 20 percent) chance for a morning isolated shower but most of us stay dry. We should have some intervals of sunshine into the afternoon, but areas of cloudiness and another isolated shower or two cannot be ruled out. Breezes from the south are light but humidity is back on the climb, albeit moderately. Highs still top out above the normal  in the upper 80s to 90. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Evening cools off but readings are still in the lower 80s despite the earlier sunset times that are becoming more noticeable. Skies are mainly clear and light south winds linger through the night. Lows only fall to the upper 60s to lower 70s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): The day starts out warm and humid and only becomes moreso as the day progresses. While there is a <20% chance of an afternoon shower or storm, the vast majority of the area just swelters. Highs top out in the upper 80s to lower 90s and with barely a breath of breeze, air conditioners are humming.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Evening strolls are only for the stouthearted as humidity stoked 80s persist and winds are not to be found, unless you’re under a stray, lingering thundershower (less than 20 percent chance). Lows do no better than upper  60s to lower 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Saturday starts out like the previous two days but does not end like them as a cold front pushes steadily toward the area. Humidity is getting perilously close to sauna levels.  Clouds are likely to gradually increase around midday to take a little edge off the heat but highs are still expected to peak in the lower 90s. Thunderstorms are a good bet in much of the region anytime from late afternoon through the evening (70% chance). The showers should drop temperatures nicely but not the humidity. Lows range from mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

Sunday dawns to a much improved world with slowly declining humidity and notably slower climbing temperatures. Highs hold in the lower 80s. The evening in the 70s is magnificent and the almost full moon rises in splendor as the  day’s clear skies continue unabated. Overnight readings invite open windows with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: High

Monday may make you wish for another 3 day weekend with mostly sunny skies, low humidity and highs only in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Confidence: Medium-High
