D.C. area forecast: A sunny Sunday with several nice days ahead

Today’s Daily Digit

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

You have to be looking awfully hard to find fault with today’s early-fall bliss.

Express Forecast

Today: Mostly sunny and nice. Highs: Low-to-mid 70s.

Tonight: Mostly clear and cool. Lows: Upper 40s to mid-50s.

Tomorrow: Partly sunny. Highs: Upper 70s to near 80.

High pressure takes control today, continuing our fall-ish temperatures but without the fall-ish showers. It’s a real winner with plenty of sun and low humidity. Temperatures get a bit of a bump tomorrow, before a cold front threatens some showers late Monday into early Tuesday. After that, though, we’re looking at an extended run where the “Nice Day Sun” may become a daily fixture here on the blog.

Tonight: Last night was a chilly one, and tonight features more of the same. Partly to mostly clear skies and calm winds set the stage for a cool evening. So you’d be wise to carry along a light jacket if you’ll be out and about. All of us should at least get down into the 50s for overnight lows, while some of the cooler spots north and west could bottom in the upper 40s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): After a cool morning start, a quick shift to winds from the south is enough to take the edge off our fall preview, at least for a day. Those southerly winds are light, maybe even calm at times, but should be enough to help highs to the upper 70s to near 80 under partly sunny skies. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: A weak disturbance and cold front approach the area, which leads to increasing clouds and a 50% chance of showers mainly after midnight. The clouds help keep temperatures up a bit, with lows only dropping to the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium

A few showers may linger early Tuesday morning, before high pressure really takes hold for the rest of Tuesday through Thursday. That spells fantastic weather for our midweek, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s. Tuesday night and Wednesday night lows are mainly in the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High
