Photos for Memorial Day: Morning light at Arlington National Cemetery

May 24, 2015. (Kevin Ambrose)

I arrived at Arlington National Cemetery when the gates opened on Sunday morning.  My goal was to capture a few photos of the cemetery with the soft, morning light.  For the second year in a row, the weather was perfect for a photo shoot.

Arlington National Cemetery is one of the special locations that we often feature in this blog with photos from all seasons.  It seems fitting that on this Memorial Day weekend that we should include a photo post showing the cemetery with some beautiful early summer weather.  It’s a good time to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and also the mission of Arlington National Cemetery:

On behalf of the American people, lay to rest those who have served our nation with dignity and honor, treating their families with respect and compassion, and connecting guests to the rich tapestry of the cemetery’s living history, while maintaining these hallowed grounds befitting the sacrifice of all those who rest here in quiet repose.

All of the photos in this post were taken Sunday morning with the exception of the snow photo at the end, which was included for a seasonal contrast to show the beauty of Arlington Cemetery in all seasons.  Happy Memorial Day!
