With warm and humid air and a daily chance of thunderstorms, this has the look and feel of a midsummer weather forecast. The only thing missing is any sign of a major heat wave, like an extended stretch of highs of 90-plus. That will probably come in due time, but for now the muggy 80s and a few boomers here and there is plenty summer-like for the end of May.

Today (Wednesday): Kind of your typical summertime forecast around here, though not super-duper hot. It’s a partly to mostly cloudy, warm and humid day as highs rise to the mid-to-upper 80s. We’ve got a 50 percent chance that you’ll see a scattered mid-to-late-afternoon shower or thunderstorm in your neck of the woods, with any storms capable of heavy downpours, lightning and gusty winds. Winds are light from the south around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of scattered showers and storms continues through around mid-evening. After that we’re partly cloudy and sticky, with lows mainly in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): A few subtle changes are in store for tomorrow. First, winds look like they’ll have a more westerly component. That should lower the humidity just a bit, which should in turn lower afternoon shower and storm chances to around 30 percent. The drier air may also mean slightly hotter highs in the upper 80s to near 90 under partly sunny skies. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: That 30 percent chance of showers and storms extends into the evening, with clearing skies possible overnight. It’s still on the humid side for May, but not as sticky as tonight with lows settling in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Winds are back from the south on Friday and Saturday, sending humidity a bit higher again as highs both days head for the mid-to-upper 80s under continued partly sunny skies. Each afternoon and evening runs the risk of a few scattered showers and storms, followed by nighttime lows in the rather muggy upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

A slow-moving cold front in our vicinity increases the odds of scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday night and Sunday, but it’s too early to say much about timing or how numerous storms will be. Sunday skies should be partly to mostly cloudy with highs near 80 to the mid-80s. Confidence: Low-Medium
