The Washington PostDemocracy Dies in Darkness

D.C. area forecast: A few more showers possible today, then mighty nice Thursday and Friday

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

6/10: Shower threat is down but definitely not out. Extra points for being on the cusp of a couple really nice days (Thursday and Friday).

Today: A few scattered t’showers possible. Highs: Mid-80s.
Tonight: Clearing skies, less humid. Lows: 60s.
Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, pleasant! Highs: Low-to-mid-80s.

If we can get through one more day with a lingering chance of a few scattered showers or thundershowers, we have a nice change of pace waiting in the wings for our Thursday and Friday. Namely, mostly sunny skies, low humidity and pleasant temperatures. Not that it will last long, though. The weekend brings us right back to the warm and muggies, with a daily chance for a few showers and storms.

Today (Wednesday): With some leftover upper-level energy hanging around, a few scattered showers or thundershowers remain possible through mid-afternoon. Otherwise, we’re mostly to partly cloudy with highs in the mid-80s. A 10-15 mph breeze from the northwest helps bring the humidity down a bit from recent days. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds are on the decrease this evening and we should feel a more noticeable drop in humidity as well. Skies then turn mostly clear overnight as even drier air works into the area, thanks to a continued steady breeze from the northwest. Lows find their way down to less-muggy levels than recent nights, ranging from the low-to-mid-60s in the suburbs to the mid-to-upper 60s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: The evening is a comfortable one to be out and about, with temperatures dropping into the 70s and mugginess still missing in action. Skies remain mostly clear through the night with lows mainly in the 60s area-wide. Confidence: High

Shall we do it again? Friday should be almost as nice as Thursday, perhaps a touch warmer with a slight increase in humidity, but still quite nice by July standards. Skies stay mostly sunny as highs head for the mid-80s. Humidity creeps a bit higher Friday night with lows in the mid-60s to low 70s. Confidence: High

So much for our change of pace. The weekend brings back the usual. We’re partly sunny, warmer and more humid. Highs climb toward the upper 80s to low 90s, and we’ve got a chance of a few showers and storms each day, mainly during the afternoon into evening. Saturday night lows look rather warm, in the low-to-mid-70s. Confidence: Medium
