Clouds hung tougher than expected today and kept us on the cooler side as well. It won’t last though. In fact, this weekend we get something we’ve seen fairly little of this summer — big-time heat. It’s nothing we can’t handle. But we are out of practice, so with heat indices expected around 100-105, please remember to take it easy and stay hydrated.

[Brace yourself for the hottest weekend of the summer so far]

Through Tonight: Can’t rule out an isolated shower or thundershower through the evening and overnight. Otherwise skies are partly to mostly cloudy and it’s increasingly muggy as lows stay up in the low-to-mid 70s.

The Weekend: Mid-summer heat settles in with Saturday highs in the low-to-mid 90s and Sunday highs surging to mainly the mid-90s. With humidity in the high range (dew points in the low 70s), the heat index likely peaks near the 100-105 range both days. A few thunderstorms are possible each day (40% chance Saturday, 30% chance Sunday) mainly in the late afternoon or evening, although a couple showers or thundershowers are possible Saturday morning as well.
