FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’re about to turn the page to September, but Mother Nature’s not ready to give up on summer just yet! Summer heat, with highs near or past 90 and rising humidity, is here to stay the next several days. As high pressure remains in control through midweek we’ll enjoy ample sunshine, and ample sweat, with the risk of a stray shower here and there. Any rain we do see is likely not enough to alter your lawn-watering plans.

Today (Sunday): A mix of sun and clouds could produce a stray afternoon sprinkle or light shower, but only a 10% chance in our immediate area as most of the action stays well west toward the mountains. We have a decent shot at seeing a “9” as the first digit in our high temps this afternoon downtown, with most spots reaching at least the upper 80s. We’ll call it upper 80s to low 90s with moderate humidity and light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Expect mostly cloudy skies, mostly calm winds and slightly sticky conditions, with overnight lows mainly in the low-to-mid 70s. A few sprinkles or light showers are possible toward morning. Confidence: Medium-High

Any break in the heat on the way? Keep reading for the forecast through midweek…

Tomorrow (Monday): With partly to mostly cloudy skies, we’ll run a little higher risk of seeing a few scattered showers as the instability rises. The overall chance of rain is around 30% and could come at any time both morning or afternoon, but anything we see should be fairly light and brief. Highs reach the upper 80s to low 90s with continued moderate humidity. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Any showers quickly subside after dark and we’re left with clearing skies through the evening and overnight. The darkness offers little relief from the mugginess, with lows near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

High pressure attempts to reassert itself Tuesday, bringing mostly sunny skies to start off September, and shower chances next-to-nil but not quite absent. Highs stay in the summery range, heading for near 90 to the mid-90s as humidity edges higher. We’re partly cloudy and warm Tuesday night with lows in the 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Wednesday is a near repeat performance, save for perhaps the addition of a few more clouds, and a slight chance of a shower. Highs return to near 90 to the mid-90s and humidity levels continue to slowly rise, bringing on the “blech.” Confidence: Medium-High
