FORECAST IN DETAIL

Monday’s gloom will resume this morning with a cloudy canopy and scattered light showers or drizzle.  Unfortunately we didn’t get enough rain in this episode to bring us up to normal for the month, but it might have been enough to ward off full-on drought conditions. The situation slowly starts to clear this afternoon into tonight before we launch into some very nice and warm days tomorrow into Thursday morning. Friday and the weekend are quite the mystery right now as a rainy disturbance along the Southeast coast tries to inch north into the area.

Today (Tuesday): Cranky cloud cover continues to dominate the scene this morning with some patches of drizzle and light showers, especially east and south of the city. Morning temperatures slowly crawl their way up through the 60s. Partly to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon allow temperatures to reach peak levels in the lower to middle 70s. Breezes blow from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Partly cloudy and turning a bit cooler as lows dip into the middle 50s in the outer suburbs to the lower 60s in the city. Very light breezes blow from the north at 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: Medium-high

Tomorrow (Wednesday):  Considerable improvement as mostly sunny skies dominate and temperatures move to slightly warmer-than-normal levels in the upper 70s to low 80s. Low humidity works with the weather to keep the comfort factor high. Light breezes arrive from the northeast direction at 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Just a few clouds around as lows dip a bit cooler yet, ranging from the lower to middle 50s in the cooler suburbs to the low 60s in the city. Light comfortable breezes. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday features more good weather conditions with partly to mostly sunny skies through the early afternon as highs again go into the upper 70s t0 low 80s. Clouds seem likely to increase through the mid-afternoon and evening as low pressure moves over the Carolinas. Thursday night aims for partly to mostly cloudy skies as lows range from around 60 to the middle 60s. Confidence: Medium

Friday and the weekend are quite complicated, unfortunately, thanks to significant uncertainty regarding a disturbance along the Southeast coast.  The latest weather guidance overnight has shifted together toward a rainier view, but they disagree about onset timing.  Friday should at least be cloudy with highs in the 70s and a 50/50 shot of rain starting.  Friday night through Sunday looks wet with light to sometimes moderate rain.   Highs Saturday and Sunday should be in the upper 60s to low 70s with lows Friday and Saturday nights in the 60s.   While this rainier trend goes a long way to alleviate our September rainfall deficit, it is aiming to spoil weekend outdoor plans.  Confidence: Low
