FORECAST IN DETAIL
This act of cloudy skies and the occasional rain chance is growing old, but it’s the weather pattern we’re stuck with for much of the week. After a warm Monday with just a slight chance of showers, a toasty Tuesday sets the stage for a healthy dose of downpours by the evening hours. By late Wednesday, we start to cool down and may briefly dry out before the next chance of rain arrives late Thursday into Saturday. However, it’s possible this late week rain system goes out to sea and misses us.
Today (Monday): Light winds from the southeast draw in warm and humid air, giving the day a summery feel. Skies tend mostly cloudy, but peeks of sun are possible at times, boosting high temperatures near 80. During the afternoon, a few showers may develop (30 percent chance) — especially south of the city (40 percent chance), where you might even hear a rumble of thunder. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: An evening shower is possible (30 percent chance). Otherwise, skies remain cloudy with areas of fog developing. Lows range from the August-like upper 60s to the 70-degree range. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Mostly cloudy and warm, with showers and thundershowers possible, especially in our western areas during the mid-to-late afternoon. Highs are around 80, but the humidity is reminiscent of July with dew points around 70! Light winds from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: As a cold front approaches, showers and thunderstorms are likely and may contain heavy downpours, especially north of the District. Lows range from the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium
A LOOK AHEAD
Showers are possible Wednesday, especially in the morning. Rain should taper by evening, as the front departs. Highs are in the low 70s. Partial clearing and cooler Wednesday night, with lows ranging through the 50s. Confidence: Medium
We’re in between weather systems Thursday, favoring dry conditions. It’s noticeably cooler, with highs in the upper 60s under partly sunny skies. Increasing clouds Thursday night with a slight chance of rain late, with lows in the 50s. Confidence: Medium
The forecast for Friday and Saturday is a big question mark and depends on the exact track of low pressure that may develop near the coast. We could have wind-driven, chilly rain (highs only near 60) or get fringed by the storm with just some cloudy intervals and temps closer to 70. It’s too soon to make a call either way, so stay tuned to the forecast. Confidence: Low
Computer models are somewhat consistent in predicting a dry Sunday — although the day is by no means in the clear as the timing of any late week storminess could certainly shift. Highs are likely in the 60s after lows in the 50s. Confidence: Low-Medium
