A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

10/10: Today’s the best of the best, sun shines bright east to west; days like these give life some zest, now point me to the nearest Oktoberfest!

Today: Sunny and calm. Highs: 74-78
Tonight: Mainly clear and calm. Lows: 57-62
Tomorrow: Increasing clouds, p.m. showers likely. Highs: 78-83

Today has “sunbundance” helping to make up for the deficit we suffered last week. There are a few showers and maybe even a crack of thunder to contend with late Friday. But the payoff is a fabulous fall weekend. For those with an extra day off, count me as jealous!

The mainly clear skies afford pre-dawn risers a special treat on the eastern horizon the next few mornings as Mars, Jupiter, Venus and the crescent moon nearly run into each other.

Today (Thursday): Sun dominates with just a few clouds springing up in the warmth of the afternoon as highs push into the mid-to-upper 70s. Calm winds and dry air add to the comfort zone surrounding us. Confidence: High

Tonight: Stars shine brightly and hopefully a few Draconid meteors will as well in the northwest evening skies. Calm winds and readings near 70 make for fine viewing. Lows only bottom out in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): The sun is likely to hang out with us for much of the morning but by midday clouds race in and threaten to make for some slick roads by evening commute time. Amounts are likely to be light in most areas but with the potential of a thunderstorm or two mixed in, a few spots could get a good drenching. Highs are impressive, topping out in the upper 70s to lower 80s as long as the clouds and rain hold off until afternoon. Expect just a light south breeze keeping umbrellas from flying off. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clouds and lingering showers are likely through the evening but again mainly in light doses. All should be over by dawn. Lows range from the mid-to-upper 50s with winds shifting to the west. Confidence: Medium

Saturday starts out on the cloudy side but the sun shoulders its way through by midday. Fall air is back in control with highs unlikely to do better than mid-to-upper 60s but with calm winds outdoor events are a go. Things do cool quickly after sunset which is now well before 7 p.m. Overnight lows bottoming out in the 40s are attention getting. Confidence: Medium-High

Scads of sun for Sunday help push the chill of the early morning out quickly. Southwesterly breezes could manage to return highs to the low-to-mid 70s which is pretty impressive for a sun that is noticeably lower in the sky these days. Clear skies and a longer night allow lows to drop back to the upper 40s suburbs but hold in the mid-50s downtown. Confidence: High

Columbus Day (Monday) is clear sailing, leaving you to discover how fine a fall day can be with abundant sun pushing highs into the mid-to-upper 70s. Confidence: Medium-High
