FORECAST IN DETAIL

Our winter preview event currently in session is only slowly receding over the coming days, but it looks like great news for Thanksgiving and Black Friday when temperatures should surge well above normal with partly sunny skies. This warm-up is not necessarily a doorbuster deal, though — just a limited time offer. Scattered showers and colder temperatures move in on Saturday, but the weekend saves us a crisp, sunny Sunday.

Today (Tuesday): Mostly sunny skies, but still a chilled morning as temperatures lift from the 20s and low 30s to the 40s in the morning and then near 50 by mid-afternoon. Light breezes from the west at 5 to 10 mph won’t offer as much wind chill as yesterday, so the air will have a little less of a bite to it. Confidence: High

Tonight: Mostly clear with temperatures dropping down to a broad range from the middle 20s in the outer suburbs to the middle 30s in the city. Light breezes mainly from the north and northeasterly direction. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): The air mass is trying hard to moderate, but it’s still struggling even though we should have mostly sunny skies. Highs are forecast to get into the low 50s in the afternoon, which are at least closer to normal for this time of year. Winds mainly from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear again and we take another step in the warmer direction as lows range from near freezing in the outer sections to the low 40s right in the city. Winds from the east and southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Thanksgiving Day is thankfully a decent situation as a warmer air mass elevates afternoon temperatures into the 50s with a few spots hitting 60. Skies aim for partly sunny, but we could see some mostly sunny periods at times. Thanksgiving night looks partly cloudy with lows in the 40s, which is good news for folks waiting outside for early deals — at least we avoid freezing temperatures. Confidence: Medium-high

Black Friday is favored to be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the very nice lower to middle 60s. It won’t feel like Christmas shopping, but it’ll sure feel nice if you’re out and about! Friday night is cloudier with lows ranging through the 40s. Confidence: Medium-high

The  weekend brings a Saturday cold front with cloudy skies, scattered showers, and highs stalled in the 50s. Winds could really pick up at times as the cold front passes, which could arrive any time between the late morning and late afternoon. Saturday night turns partly cloudy and colder with temperatures falling into the 20s and 30s. Sunday returns sunshine to the forecast with highs cresting around 50 degrees. Confidence: Medium
