FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’ve got great travel weather, or just plain getting-around-town weather, today through Black Friday. Thanksgiving itself could hardly be nicer as our slow but steady warming trend continues. The weekend is a decent one for late November, but definitely cooler and cloudier, with the potential for a few showers as well.

Today (Wednesday): With high pressure in firm control, it’s a terrific travel day across the vast majority of the Eastern U.S. Here in the D.C. area, we’ve got mostly sunny skies and temperatures right around average, reaching afternoon highs in the mid-50s. Winds are light and variable in direction. Confidence: High

Tonight: A gradually warming air mass means temperatures don’t get quite as cold as last night, even with mostly clear skies and light winds providing optimal cooling conditions. Lows range from the low-to-mid 30s in the outer suburbs, to the upper 30s to low 40s near and inside the Beltway. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thanksgiving): Our warming trend continues, making for a Thanksgiving Day to be thankful for. Highs head for the upper 50s to near 60, under partly to mostly sunny skies with light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Skies may turn partly cloudy as high pressure begins to lose control. But otherwise it’s a perfectly pleasant Thanksgiving night, as lows settle in the 40s with continued light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

A cold front slowly approaches from the west on Friday, but any rain should remain west and northwest of the area. That means a partly cloudy and pleasant shopping day, with highs in the 60s and light winds. As the front gets closer, we pick up a slight chance of a shower Friday night with lows again in the 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

The cold front could spawn a few showers as it comes through on Saturday. Otherwise it’s a mostly cloudy, breezier and much cooler day with highs in the 50s. Another system coming out of the Midwest may produce a few more showers Sunday into Sunday night. Sunday highs should top out in the upper 40s to near 50, still with mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Low-Medium
