FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’re continuing into our stretch of warm, dry weather. Breezes are barely noticeable in an ever-warming air mass. It may actually get a smidge muggy as the weekend wears on? We’ll see. Sunshine could be variable at times but nothing much to complain about otherwise—unless you are a snow lover!

Today (Friday): December weather to remember continues as we head into the 62-67 degree range. Warmest readings likely south of town, as 5-10 mph southwesterly winds slowly pump in this unseasonable air. Skies should be mostly bright with partly to mostly sunny conditions the rule. Obviously, eating lunch outside is mandatory. Confidence: High

Tonight: That south-southwesterly breeze calms down just a bit, slowly through the evening. A light jacket may be plenty warm, as readings only slowly slip toward pre-dawn low temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s (around 50 downtown!). Skies likely have occasional clouds. Despite the long night length, we have to credit the mild weather as mitigating our Seasonal Affective Disorder, no? Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Saturday): This one may rock. Plentiful sunshine with only occasional clouds, light southwest breezes, and moist (almost muggy?) air. Relish in afternoon highs into the mid-to-upper 60s. In the small chance of easterly breezes kicking up and dragging in some maritime cloud cover, there is a chance we cut down a few degrees from these projections. Stay tuned. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: We notice a bit of comfort in this almost-springlike air, even after the sun sets. Still, temperatures do cool during the long night, and clouds may move in. Low temperatures may fall into the upper 40s outside of the Beltway, to perhaps mid-50s at National Airport. Confidence: Medium

Sunday: Partly sunny, as high clouds dominate from time to time. Luckily for warm weather lovers, we have a light south wind persisting, which helps reinforce this warm air over us. Do we see a few record high temperatures tied or beaten? Remains to be seen if we can get—as currently appears likely—into the mid-60s to around 70. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday night: Clouds continue to move in and thicken up a bit. It should stay dry, though, despite a storm system slowly heading our way. Low temperatures range through the low-to-mid 50s. Confidence: Medium

Temperatures in the 60s are likely to continue Monday into Tuesday. Clouds, showers, and warmth dominate on Monday as we head into the mid-60s, if not upper 60s. By Tuesday, we clear out, cool off just a hair, but afternoon high temperatures should still get to around 60 degrees for most of us, with sunshine returning. Winter remains on hold. Can’t get through! Confidence: Medium
