FORECAST IN DETAIL

As we move through mid-December here, winter is trying to make a bit of an insurgence, but it is ever so slow. We’re slightly cooler today than we were yesterday, which was cooler than the day before. Yet we’re still warmer than average today and even tomorrow, although closer than we’ve been. Finally, after a likely rainy day tomorrow, a more December-like chill visits for Friday and the weekend, before we warm up yet again.

Today (Wednesday): No doubt we’re in the midst of a cooling trend. But it’s about as gradual as can be as high pressure brings another nice December day. Highs still reach the mid-50s to near 60 under mostly sunny skies. Light winds are from the north in the morning, then from the the southeast in the afternoon. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies turn most cloudy this evening into the overnight as low pressure approaches from the southwest. Rain approaching from the west and south could move into the area before or around sunrise. Lows continue on the mild side as they settle in the 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Rain is likely through much of the day, and it could be moderate at times, before moving out during the early-to-mid evening. Many spots have a good chance at picking up 0.5-0.75″, with locally lighter and heavier amounts possible. Winds stay light and variable as highs reach the mid-50s under cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: After the rain moves out, should be gone by around mid-evening, we may see some partial clearing overnight. Otherwise we’ll see drier air filtering in on a light breeze from the northwest, with lows dropping back to the upper 30s to mid-40s. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Friday continues the cooling trend with partly sunny skies, a 20% chance of a passing shower, and temperatures fairly steady in the mid-40s to near 50 with a gusty breeze. And how about this for a change of pace? — Friday night lows dip below freezing in some spots, ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s. Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend shapes up as partly to mostly sunny and continued cool. Looks like we’ll stay breezy on Saturday with highs stalling near 40 to the mid-40s, followed by Saturday night lows in the 20s to near 30. Lighter winds on Sunday and a little warmer, as highs aim for the mid-40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium-High
