Spring weather is in full swing across the central and eastern U.S. this week, just in time for the start of daylight saving time. At 2 a.m. Sunday, the clocks move ahead one hour and we “spring forward” again. While we lose an hour of sleep, the upside is an extra hour of evening daylight for outdoor activities.
After the time switch, most of us will see sunset after 7 p.m. — a far cry from our darkest evenings in December. In Washington, D.C., sunrise and sunset advance to 7:22 a.m. and 7:14 p.m., respectively, on Sunday (compared to 6:23 a.m. and 6:13 p.m. on Saturday).
Early risers will have to contend with darker mornings again, but as the days continue to get longer, it’ll only be a few weeks before the mornings are considerably brighter again.
