FORECAST IN DETAIL

Weather whiplash, anyone? Our bumpy start to April continues today with a chilly morning but warmer afternoon. Showers threaten late tonight and much of tomorrow as well, though there’s a chance the Nats home opener isn’t a total washout. Friday looks to be the calmest day of the next few, with another blast of cold and some wind for our weekend.

Today (Wednesday): It’s another chilly start, with morning temperatures working their way through the 30s and 40s. But temperatures get a bit of a boost by the afternoon, thanks to mostly to partly sunny skies and breezes increasing to near 15 mph from the south. Highs should reach the upper 50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds increase during the evening with a 50-60 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. or so. A steady wind from the south, at around 10-20 mph, provides a milder night with lows in the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Showers seem likely during the morning into midday, but they may taper by mid-to-late afternoon leading up to the Nationals home opener at 4:05 p.m. Still there’s at least a chance of showers through the afternoon. Good news is we’re still on the mild side of the front, with highs reaching the upper 50s to mid-60s despite mostly cloudy skies. Breezes arrive from the southwest and west at around 10-15 mph. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances may ramp higher again during the evening before dwindling overnight, with some partial clearing possible toward morning. Lows drop back to the mid-30s to low 40s as colder air works back in behind the front. Confidence: Low-Medium

The weekend is a rather chilly one for April with highs in the mid-40s to low 50s. Saturday looks particularly cold with considerable clouds, a gusty wind, and the chance for a few rain or snow showers. Sunday should be sunnier, but still with a noticeable breeze. Saturday night lows sink to the 20s. Confidence: Medium
