FORECAST IN DETAIL

Today begins a cooler, cloudier and more unsettled pattern, which looks to stick around the D.C. area into next week. Along with the cooler and cloudy regime, today offers the chance of a few light showers, but the better chance of scattered showers waits for Thursday and Friday. Saturday should start the weekend dry despite considerable clouds, before shower chances probably return at some point Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): A few light showers are possible through the course of the day, thanks to a cold front draped just to our south. Otherwise we’re overcast and much cooler, with highs only in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Light winds come from the northeast at around 5-10 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Can’t rule out a few evening showers, though the better chance of rain may focus south of the area. Lows settle in the upper 40s to mid-50s, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and light winds. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Low pressure moving along the nearby front brings a better chance of showers (60-70 percent chance), but they should be of the scattered variety, so it shouldn’t rain everywhere all day. Cloudy skies persist, which along with light winds from the east helps limit highs to the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow night: The chance of scattered showers stays up around 60 percent during the evening, then should decrease some overnight. Lows drop back to the upper 40s to low 50s under mostly cloudy skies. Confidence: Low-Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

A trailing area of upper-level energy keeps the shower chances going on Friday into Friday night. Plenty of clouds, too, as Friday highs remain stuck in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Confidence: Low-Medium

The weekend looks partly to mostly cloudy, but should start off dry during the day Saturday into Saturday night. Shower chances return on Sunday, with highs both days mainly in the 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
