A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10: The clouds and shower chances are back. BOO!

Today: Mostly cloudy, chance of showers. Highs: 65 to 70.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Lows: 50 to 55.
Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, small shower chance. Highs: 65 to 70.

Early- to mid-May is often one of Washington’s nicest times of the year, filled with sunny, warm days. But this May is a cloudy, damp mess. Rain is possible most days this week because of a warm front stalled over the region. Our streak of 12 straight days with measurable rain has a good chance to grow. Meanwhile, we’ll contend with considerable cloud cover, keeping temperatures below normal. One positive? It will not be as cool, cloudy and rainy as last week.

Today (Monday): We’ve seen worse days, but a warm front draped over the region produces a good deal of clouds and the opportunity for some showers, especially this morning. This is not great news for viewing the transit of Mercury. With some luck, maybe there are peeks of sun in the afternoon, as highs range from 65 to 70. Light winds from the west. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Showers chances are fairly low (20 percent or less), but clouds hang tough. Overnight lows dip from 50 to 55 degrees. Light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tueday): Tomorrow is a lot like today, but I think the better chance of rain is in the afternoon and evening compared with the morning. More hours than not, it’s not raining, with highs 65 to 70 degrees. Skies are mostly cloudy, with some breaks in the cloud cover possible at times. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Showers are reasonably likely in the evening (60 percent chance) with a lesser chance (30 percent) after midnight. Lows are mostly in the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium

Some models advertise a break from the rain Wednesday, but, with the stalled front still in our vicinity, it’s foolish to take a chance of showers out of the forecast. Whether it rains or not, skies are probably mostly cloudy, with highs near 70. Mostly cloudy at night, with lows in the 50s. Confidence: Low-Medium

On Thursday and Friday a cold front approaches and moves through the region. I think the balance of Thursday may end up dry and mild. Even some sunshine is possible following a gloomy start. Highs climb into the 70s. Showers are likely Thursday night and perhaps some thunderstorms, with lows near 60. Showers may linger into the first half of Friday (maybe a bit later, depending on the exact cold front timing). Some sunshine could emerge in the afternoon, with highs into the low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Another cold front tries to zip through the region late Saturday, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms by evening. Prior, it’s partly sunny most of the day, with highs 70 to 75. Rain should end overnight Saturday, setting up a nice Sunday — we may end up between weather systems. Highs are around 70 to 75. Confidence: Low-Medium
