After five days with rain last week, this week probably produces just four, so we’re headed in the right direction. But it’s a sorry state of affairs when three dry days out of seven is considered improvement — but that’s reality.
Today marks one of this week’s few dry days. But then it turns cool and rainy tomorrow into Wednesday, and the weekend may follow suit. The week’s best two days may well occur Thursday and Friday when it’s mostly sunny and near 70.
Today (Monday): If you live in some of our colder areas well west of town, don’t be shocked to awaken to some frost. So grab the fleece and the ice scraper when you head out. But the May sun should help temperatures recover fairly quickly, as they should be near 60 midday. Then, afternoon highs reach the mid-60s to near 70. Winds are from the west at 10 to 15 mph with some stronger gusts at times. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Skies are mostly clear early but cloud over as the night wears on. A light shower is even possible before dawn mainly in our western areas. It’s not as cold with lows from the upper 40s in our colder suburbs to the low-to-mid 50s downtown. Light winds. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow (Tuesday): This day is similar to so many others we’ve seen over the past few weeks. A warm front stuck near or just south of the region serves as the focus for occasional rain showers. Skies are overcast for much of the day and (light) winds from the northeast keep temperatures much below normal, with highs struggling to reach 60. Confidence: Medium-High
Tomorrow night: Overcast with rain and drizzle. Temperatures hold in the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High
Showers diminish Wednesday morning and skies may brighten some or even partially clear in the afternoon (fingers crossed). After the gloomy start, we should see afternoon highs rebound well into the 60s, maybe closing in on 70 if clearing is fast enough. Wednesday night should be clear with lows 45 to 50. Confidence: Medium
Thursday and Friday both should be great days with high pressure in control. Highs should reach 70 degrees or so both days, with overnight lows in the 40s to about 50. Sky cover should vary from mostly sunny Thursday to partly sunny Friday, as some clouds increase in the afternoon. Confidence: Medium
The weekend right now doesn’t look too promising. Low pressure approaches from the south Friday night with rain potentially developing before dawn. Saturday may be a good old-fashioned rainy day, and clouds and intermittent showers may linger into Sunday. Highs both days are probably only in the 60s to near 70. There is a chance the weekend is better than advertised as models disagree some on how far north the rain-producing storm may come. So it’s possible this forecast improves. So folks with weekend plans shouldn’t lose all hope yet and stay tuned to the forecast. Confidence: Low
