Cool temperatures and rain will continue through to Wednesday, but the forecast looks better for Thursday and Friday. (Jason Samenow/The Washington Post)

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: Here comes the pain again, falling on our head like misery.

Today: Rain, cloudy, cool. Highs: 55 to 60.
Tonight: More showers. Lows: 47 to 52.
Tomorrow: Morning showers. Highs: 63 to 68.

As you’re reading this it’s probably raining again and you’re already grumpy. Yesterday’s sunny timeout was a welcome one, but it makes today even worse. We’re in this soup today, tonight and tomorrow morning before we dry out a little, and a sunshine encore comes Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, the weekend has turned to the wet side thanks to another low pressure area approaching.

Today (Tuesday): Get out the rain gear (you probably didn’t put it away) and get ready to trudge through another rainy morning and afternoon. Periods of rain combine with very cool conditions as highs only manage the middle to upper 50s. That’s 15 to 20 degrees below normal! Breezes are light and clouds are ample. Rain could be moderate at times with totals ranging from a quarter to three-quarters of an inch. Confidence: High

Tonight: We might get some dry periods this evening, but then showers return overnight for some light additional totals. Lows dip into the cooler upper 40s to low 50s with light breezes again from the east and then north. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Cloudy, dreary, drizzly morning with a few more light showers. Still mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Temperatures edge up a bit warmer into the middle to upper 60s, which is still cool for this time of year. Light winds from the north at 5 to 10 mph. Additional accumulations should be on the light side from a trace to a tenth of an inch, at best. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy skies still menace us in the evening but a few partly sunny spots are possible before the sun goes down. Bigger clearing overnight leads to cooler low temperatures by Thursday’s dawn. Lows range from the middle 40s to around 50. Confidence: Medium-High

Thursday and Friday are quite the pair of fantastic days — our best string of beauty in weeks — as highs advance into the lower to middle 70s under mostly sunny skies and relatively low, comfortable humidity. Both should easily earn Nice Day stamps. Thursday night aims for mostly clear skies, too, with lows in the upper 40s to middle 50s. Clouds increase Friday night with rain potentially arriving after midnight as lows drop into the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Our weekend is deteriorating on the models as they feature a slow-grinding low pressure area arriving. Rain could be widespread and heavy at times Saturday, and then lighter showers linger into Sunday. Temperatures could be quite cool on Saturday, with highs ranging in the 60s, although 50s are possible. Sunday highs could climb to 70 if we dry out fast enough. We have a slim chance to get a few partly sunny spots later on Sunday afternoon, and we have a few days to fine tune the weekend system’s timing. Confidence: Low-Medium
